Daniel Singer’s first book was Prelude to Revolution: France in May 1968, published in 1970. There he posed the question: “Could it be that a socialist revolution is beginning, that Marxism is returning to its home ground, the advanced countries for which it was designed?” And he answered his own question, Yes. The main message of the May crisis was that a “revolutionary situation can occur in an advanced capitalist country.”

He is the quintessential loud-spoken quiet guy. An oxymoron, probably, but Hossam el-Hamalawy exudes these traits to preciseness. He gives credit where credit is due; he supports and assists when needed and he always speaks his mind. His Arabawy blog has garnered the attention of local and international observers, commentators and journalists all looking for that “authentic” piece of the Arab world. Hamalawy offers something that very few bloggers in the region can give: a perspective that may or may not be their own. He is a compiler, a giver and the person who gives time to discuss and argue contentious issues with others without reverting to name calling.

Building a Non-Eurocentric Anarchism in Our Communities: Dialogue with Ashanti Alston

The following is an interview with Ashanti Alston Omowali, an African descent anarchist activist, who started his political militancy back in the ‘60s in the Black Panther Party. He was also a member of the Black Liberation Army, and because of his revolutionary activities spent more than a decade in prison. In prison he moved forward to anarchism and after his release he has participated with numerous libertarian initiatives and publications, and is one of the founders of Anarchist People of Color (APOC), a network that brings together anarchists of colour in the remarkably racist US. Ashanti also participates in a number of initiatives ranging from solidarity with political prisoners in the US to the Institute for Anarchist Studies.

Henry Lowi argues the case for a democratic revolution to overcome partition, to decolonize Palestine, to overthrow the Zionist regime, and to open up the prospects for peace, democracy and coexistence.

”All the ‘friends of Palestine’ have made their peace with Partition. They do not challenge it. They can live with it. They can agitate politically without reference to it. But the workers and farmers of Palestine, and the refugees in the camps, need a programme to overcome Partition, to decolonize Palestine, to overthrow the Zionist regime, and to open up the prospects for peace, democracy and coexistence.”

Sunday 29 November was the anniversary of United Nations General Assembly Resolution (UNGAR) 181, the “Partition Resolution”. Partition remains the elephant in the room. No one wants to talk about it.

This interview originally appeared in Red Star #18 as ‘We need a new international’. Prof. Samir Amin is major revolutionary thinker with dozens of major works over forty years exploring deeply the development and crimes of international capitalism. He was interviewed by Roshan Kissoon and Chandra.

Can you tell us about yourself briefly and your views on Marxism?

I qualify myself as an activist, maybe an intellectual activist. My whole active life was deeply connected with the liberation movements in Africa during the late 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and the after; that is roughly I could say the Bandung period, starting from 1955. That struggle has changed more than any other struggle, possibly, in the last 50 years.

Natomiast żyć dobrze to żyć zgodnie z zasadami solidarności, równości, komplementarności, wzajemności - to coś zupełnie innego, niż żyć lepiej. W naukowych kategoriach marksizmu, leninizmu mówi się: kapitalizm i socjalizm, a my po prostu mówimy: żyć lepiej niż inni i żyć dobrze.
